The Resurrection Of Asbestos Jobs

It was probably up until around 1985 when the asbestos industry – mainly manufacturing and building companies – had been using asbestos liberally. And as a matter of fact, the US Army also had jobs in that area. Well, I was born in the early seventies and as I got old enough to help my father working on our house, we used to cut, saw and trim asbestos sheets almost every day to install them on the outside walls.

But let’s go back to the manufactures and construction companies in the asbestos field; over 1.5 million employees in the USA, to my surprise, are still working in the asbestos production or installation industry.

Interestingly enough, asbestos abatement jobs and asbestos removal jobs are experiencing a new boom these days. I guess that’s because a lot of homeowners had their houses tested on asbestos, and when they found out that they were indeed surrounded by the toxic material, they hired a company and had it removed.

On one hand that can be seen as a good thing, because it employs workers. But those workers are exposing themselves to a significantly higher risk in developing an asbestos induced disease at some point in their lives. For that reason, the government enacted laws and regulations that require employers to provide their employees with the highest safety standards.

There is still a risk, no matter what. Even the best state of the art protection gear might not fully prevent the asbestos dust from ending up in someone’s lungs. And that’s the cause of diseases like lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis.

And that explains the fact that we have quite a few law firms out there, solely offering services tailored to asbestos lawsuits and asbestos settlements. If a person can prove that his asbestos related illness was caused by an unsafe working environment, he will have a good chance of getting compensation money awarded.

Especially the so called mesothelioma class actions are known for their big dollar amounts involved. In sum, every job that requires handling asbestos is dangerous to some extend.

Therefore, it is a must that you are always full protected when you plan on working with this substance. Because mesothelioma is a cancer that carries a poor overall prognosis. If you can, you are better of hiring a company in the asbestos removal jobs field.
