Cures For High Blood Pressure: No More Anti-Hypertensive Drugs
For the previous ten years, I have been suffering from hypertension. And to keep my blood pressure controlled, I have been taking different anti-hypertensive drugs. Now, I would like to find out some cures for high blood pressure since I want to be off the anti-hypertensive drugs for good.
First, let me say that anti-hypertensive drugs are indeed effective in keeping my blood pressure controlled. For the past ten years that I have been on these drugs, I only experienced very few occasions wherein my blood pressure spiked and these usually occurred when I missed taking the drugs. And the years of scientific research are enough to really say that these are indeed effective.
I recently decided that I must look for cures for high blood pressure since I do not want to keep on taking the anti-hypertensive drugs for the rest of my life. When I asked my doctor if I can be off the drugs anytime soon, he told me that it is impossible to do so because once I stop taking the drugs, my blood pressure will definitely rise.
If I also leave my blood pressure high for a long time, this may lead to serious diseases like heart attack and stroke. And of course, I would also not want this to happen. But then, I also did not want to keep on popping these drugs each day for the rest of my life. And so, I asked my doctor if he can tell me other methods that can help in lowering my blood pressure.
Well, he still gave me my prescription but he also discussed other strategies that could help in lowering my blood pressure. Furthermore, he said that diligently following these methods can help me get off the anti-hypertensive drugs for good. He initially did not take me off the anti-hypertensive drugs because he did not want to risk my health as I was trying out the new methods.
Diet is one method that the doctor told me all about. Even though I have not consulted with a dietitian for the past ten years, I always saw to it that I eat appropriately. And so, I decided to finally visit a dietitian to know more of the DASH diet.
When it comes to diet for hypertension, the DASH diet is the best one. In this diet, the intake of foods rich in magnesium, fiber, potassium, and calcium is increased since these are proven efficacious in lowering high blood pressure. Furthermore, the importance of limited intake of sweets, alcohol, and salt were discussed by my dietitian. In addition, the importance of reduced consumption of processed and red meats were also discussed.
During my search to know more about the cures for high blood pressure, I also found out about exercise and stress reduction. And ever since I applied these methods, my dosage for anti-hypertensive drugs has significantly decreased which means that I may be off the drugs sooner than I expected.
