One of the most pervasive problems that I see taking care of sick people is recurrent sinus problems. This kind of problem can happen from many different sources. In many cases there is more than one source or cause of the chronic sinus infection.
Recently I have read an argument that has been promoted that to get the benefit of using a nasal saline solution in the nose, you have to push the solution into the nasal passages under pressure. The folks who promote this idea think this is far better than just sniffing the nasal saline solution or using it as a gentle mist spray.
So is this a joke? Is there really a connection between running faster and having “clean nose”? I know it does sound like a joke but actually there is a very direct connection between Saline Nasal Spray and being able to run faster.
When people go shopping for treatments for their nasal problems they encounter quite a few options. So many options it’s hard to say which is the best. Some of these treatments are aimed at getting a saline nasal spray up the nose.
The reason that I am writing this article is to help you understand the things besides nasal saline spray or nasal saline solution that will help you have good nasal health. After all, when your nose isn’t happy your body isn’t happy. Part of the concept of this article is to emphasize that things that are healthy for the body are also healthy for the nose.
The purpose of this article is to review some recent research on chronic sinusitis. In this research they looked at whether it made a difference in the treatment and control of symptoms in chronic sinusitis whether saline irrigation was used or saline spray.
One of the people I saw today asked me about the different ways to deliver saline solution into the nose. She wanted to know why it was better to sniff it from the palm of the hand rather than using a squirt bottle to spray the solution into the nose.
Unless you are blessed with living in a rather pristine environment you know that a lot of the time you are breathing air that is not so healthy. In fact a lot of the time you breath air that has a bunch of stuff in it. This dust in the air has some rather predictable effects: it irritates the nose and it causes swellling of the nasal passages.
At first glance it may not be apparent why there would be a connection between a nasal saline solution and asthma. Here is the connection: asthma is aggravated by chronic sinus infections. Sometimes asthma is actually caused by a chronic sinus infection. How does this happen? Well actually we don’t know why this connection exists. But it does. What we do know is that in somebody who has a tendency toward asthma they will have an aggravation of the symptoms of asthma with any type of sinus infection, acute or chronic.
One of the most annoying things that people deal with is having difficulty breathing through their noses. It’s just amazing how much we are unaware of the nose and how air flows through it until it doesn’t work so well. All of us can think of sleepless nights where the nose was so stuffed that we just couldn’t sleep. Or going through the day with the nose just open enough that some air gets through but you have to “work” at it!
