Introduction

Flu (influenza) seasons are the months of the year when many persons have it and it’s easy to become infected. Outbreaks often begin suddenly and occur primarily in the late fall and winter. It is a respiratory disease caused by a number of different viruses. Vaccines are routinely given in the fall, before the onset of the flu season and are available as an injection or nasal mist. Injections are most important for: people 65 or older, nursing home patients, children over six months old, people with health problems such as asthma or with chronic diseases, such as HIV or heart disease, children or teen-agers who must often take aspirin, persons who are frequently around older persons or those with health problems. Symptoms can be mild or severe – and if they’re mild can become severe without any notice.

Symptoms

Should you get infected by the virus, you will usually feel symptoms 1 to 4 days later. Symptoms of the flu may include: fever, chills, headache, muscle ache, dizziness, diminished appetite, tiredness, cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea or vomiting, weakness, ear pain, diarrhea. They can come on suddenly and are usually worse than those of the common cold however; having these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the common cold, may have similar symptoms. It is very difficult to distinguish the flu from other infections on the basis of these signs alone.

should you develop flu-like symptoms and are concerned about your illness, particularly if you are at high risk for complications, you should talk with your MD. Based on your signs, your MD can usually ascertain wether you have influenza, especially during times when a lot of it is going around. After five days, fever and other signs have usually disappeared, but a cough and weakness may continue for a while. All symptoms are usually vanished within a week or two.

Vaccine

2 forms of flu vaccines are available in North American: The “flu shot” – an in-activated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is injected with a needle, usually in the arm OR the nasal-spray – a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause (sometimes called LAIV for “live attenuated influenza vaccine” or FluMist(R)). On October 24, 2007 CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended expanding the utilization of the nasal influenza vaccine LAIV (FluMist) to include healthy children ages 2-4 years old without a past history of asthma or recurrent wheezing.

Anyone who’s at risk of getting very ill needs to get a flu shot, or vaccine. It’s good for kids who are around older people and younger kids (like little brothers and sisters) to receive the vaccine also. If you get the vaccine, or shot, it will protect you from getting a severe case of the flu. Whichever one you get, you need to get a new vaccination each year because the flu virus changes every year and the vaccine is created to kill the viruses that are going to be a problem that year. The flu vaccine is generally offered between September and mid-November, although it may be given at other times of the year. Because it prevents infection from only a few of the viruses floating around that can produce flu-like symptoms, it is not a guaranteed protection against getting sick. Call your physician or local public health department about availability in your area.

Treatment

Many people treat their flu by simply Resting in bed, Drinking plenty of fluids, Taking over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol). You can develop complications if you get a bacterial infection, which can cause pneumonia in your weakened lungs. Treatment is usually unnecessary for children, but if the illness is diagnosed early and the patient is at risk of developing a severe case, it can and should be started. Treatment will only help however; If iniated early and only if the illness is actually influenza. Treatment includes bed rest and plenty of liquids; anti-viral medications can also be prescribed.

Conclusion

Influenza usually starts unexpectedly and may include the following signs: Fever (usually high), Headache, Tiredness (can be extreme), Cough, Sore throat, Runny or stuffy nose, Body aches, Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults). A physicians examination may be needed to determine whether you have developed the flu or a complication. There are tests that can determine if you have the flu as long as you are tested within the first two or three days of illness. In some people, the illness can cause serious complications, including bacterial pneumonia, dehydration, and increasening of chronic medical conditions, like congestive heart failure, asthma or diabetes. The flu can cause mild to severe illness and sometimes leads to death.

Even though most healthy people recover from the flu without complications, some persons, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), are at extreme risk for serious complications. The virus usually spreads from person to person in respiratory droplets when persons who are infected cough or sneeze. People occasionally may become infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes. The number one best way to protect yourself and others against influenza is to get a vaccination every year.

The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy persons and persons with chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease). October or November is the best time to receive a vaccination, but getting vaccinated in December or even later can still be healthful since most influenza activity takes place in January or later in most years.

Introduction

Introduction

Cellulite is the lumpy substance looking like cottage cheese that is commonly seen on the thighs, stomach, and rear end. It is really a fancy name for collections of fat that press against the connective tissue beneath the skin, and causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and appear lumpy. It is not weight related; average and underweight people have it too. Cellulite tends to be a wee bit less noticeable on darker skin and the condition is not the norm, if you have it, something “abnormal” is happening in your skin and fat cells, especially the subcutaneous (top level) level of the skin tissue. Some think cellulite to be a special type of “fat gone wrong,” a mixture of fat, water, and “toxic wastes” that the body has failed to eliminate, an embarassing problem that affects 90% of all women. Affected areas tend to be dehydrated and damaged, and require the extra benefits of moisture, protection, and increased blood supply.

Exercise

Smoking, failure to exercise, tight garments, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a single position for long periods have all been tied to an increase in cellulite. Dieting will not get rid of the dimpled appearance, but a balanced diet along with exercise may help to decrease the fat content within the lumpy cells, decreasing their contribution to the dimpling. If you and your physician believe that you are overweight, reduce your calories and exercise more. Experts agree that an exercise routine that combines aerobic exercise with strength training is the best defense against cellulite. It is extremely important to consume a healthy diet and exercise regularly to prevent the buildup.

Reduction

There are a some non-invasive, non-surgical treatments for skin contour irregularities that are approved by the Food And Drug Association for the “temporary reduction” in the appearance of cellulite. Injections of a variety of substances, from vitamins to drugs to anesthetics, are utilized for many problems and conditions, including cellulite reduction. Using aromatherapy oils like sage, cypress and juniper helps in the reduction and all of the listed things combined will result in cellulite reduction.

Treatments

Whatever the cause, it’s important to know that there aren’t any miracle products, treatments, or medicines that can make it go away. For example, some salon treatments that promise to get rid of it simply cause your skin to puff up with deep massaging, temporarily reducing the appearance of cellulite. They may leave you with a feeling of invigoration, but long-term results have never been established either clinically or scientifically. Those that stimulate the blood flow to the skin may have beneficial effects when combined with the other principles of internal and external skin care.

Other exotic, but equally unproven treatments include electrical stimulation of muscle cells and application of an electric current to the fat tissue directly. Many treatments are largely unsuccessful because they treat only the external appearance. One of the problems with many of the more invasive treatments is that they have a tendency to damage something else, especially the dermis. Once you stop getting treatments, your skin texture and tone will revert to their original state.

Conclusion

Cellulite describes a condition that occurs in both men and women where the skin of the lower limbs, abdomen, and pelvic region becomes dimpled after puberty and can be caused by a number of things, primarily due to smoking, stress, sedentary lifestyle and very poor eating habits. Practically all post-pubescent females show some degree of it. Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite and it seems to start, and aggravate its development.

Some other hormones including insulin, the catecholamines, adrenaline, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin have all been shown to participate in the development of cellulite as have a number of genetic factors. Diet has also been shown to affect the development and amount. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, alcohol or not enough fiber can all contribute to an increase.

There are no supplements that have been proven as effective for reducing cellulite. You can look to see if you have it by pinching the skin around your upper thigh. Several factors influence whether a person has cellulite and how much of it they have. Your genes, your gender, the amount of fat on your body, your age, and the thickness of your skin are all associated with the amount you have or how visible it is. Treatments like liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either expensive or may produce only short term improvement. Many doctors even warn that liposuction is not an effective treatment because liposuction is designed to eliminate deep fat instead of cellulite, which is close to the skin. If you decide that you want to try to reduce the amount you have, the best thing to do is to reduce excess body fat. When it comes to cellulite, don’t expect miracles.

Introduction

Introduction

Multiple Sclerosis, routinely known as MS, is a progressive disease of the nervous system along with a hardening of the muscles and can often result in harm to the nerves of the face, a painful problem known as “trigeminal neuralgia”. MS is a diagnosis made only after every other possible explanations for the signs and symptoms have been ruled out. An interesting observation: Persons in non-Westernized and/or non-Christian societies seldom, if ever, eat Pork or use Pork products, and rarely, if ever, suffer from Muscular Sclerosis.

Symptoms

The identifying as MS is based upon a clinical evaluation including documentation of “symptoms” and “signs” of the problem. The diagnosis of clinically definite MS requires documentation of 2 distinct episodes of symptoms and 2 or more signs evident from the neurological examination. Symptomatic episodes must last at least 24 hours and be separated by one or more months. The diagnosis can be hard to establish, especially when the initial symptoms are not accompanied by signs, abnormalities on MRI or electrophysiological tests, or analyses of spinal fluid. Even when the initial symptoms are accompanied by abnormalities on the neurological exam, it is still possible that the correct diagnosis is something else other than MS.

The symptoms are not unlike those of diabetes and impending stroke victims. Some of the signs include blurred vision, loss of muscle strength and coordination, numbness, and tremors, all of which inhibit most from living a normal life. Even when there are no symptoms, there is a progression of damage to the central nervous system with the passing of time. After initial symptoms, there may be a gradual improvement, sometimes after a few weeks. In some, these symptoms can happen early in the disease; in others, they can come later. If you are experiencing any of these feelings or symptoms, speak with your physician or Health Care Practioner.

Conclusion

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system (CNS). The Latin word for scar is sclerosis. Thus, the term multiple sclerosis was selected to describe the appearance of the brain in patients who died from this illness. The symptoms depend mostly on which particular nerve fiber pathway is involved in the CNS.

Although the cause is unknown, evidence seems to indicates that the disease may result from an environmental agent that triggers the illness in genetically susceptible people. Support for this idea includes the observation that the disease is diagnosed more frequently in temperate than tropical or subtropical areas. Men with multiple sclerosis can find it difficult to achieve or keep an erection. In women, multiple sclerosis often causes a loss of sexual sensitivity, pain during intercourse, an inability to achieve an orgasm, or a diminishing in naturally produced lubrication. Like most other MS symptoms, these problems can be temporary (during a relapse), or they can be a permanent result of the progression of the disease.

A lot of people with the disease experience fatigue or tiredness, but since fatigue can be an indication of so many other diseases, it is not usually identified as being caused by multiple sclerosis. There are a number of drugs available to help manage MS. They fall into two basic groups: Medicines that treat symptoms, Medicines that treat the underlying disease. Speak with your doctor about the best treatment option for you.

Introduction

Introduction

Leukemia meaning white blood (Greek leukos, “white”; aima, “blood”) is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an unusual growth of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes)and is split into its acute and chronic forms. It can affect the digestive tract, kidneys, lungs, and other parts of the body and can also collect in the testicles causing swelling. Leukemia is one of the most common types of cancers found in children, But it isn’t just a children’s disease, as many believe. It is newly found in about 29,000 adults and 2000 children every year in the US and has four primary types and many sub-types of which only a few of them are common among children. Leukemia that has spread to the brain can produce central nervous system effects, such as headaches, seizures, weakness, blurred eyesight, balance difficulties, or vomiting and the disease, or the chemotherapy used to treat it, may induce anemia.

Acute Leukemia

Acute leukemia is recognized by the rapid increase of immature blood cells, and is a potentially treatable illness; However only a small number of persons are cured with current treatments. It commences with one or a few white blood cells that have a lost or damaged DNA sequence and gets worse very fast and may make you feel sick right away. It tends to come about rapidly, whereas some chronic varieties may exist for years before they are even diagnosed. Immediate treatment is required due to the rapid progression and accumulation of the malignant cells, which then spill over into the bloodstream and spread to other parts of the body. Whereas acute leukemia must be treated asap, chronic forms are sometimes monitored for some time before treatment to ensure maximum effectiveness of treatment.

Chronic Leukemia

Chronic leukemia is distinguished by the excessive build up of relatively mature, but still abnormal, blood cells and often goes undetected for many years until it is identified in a routine blood test. It is more commonly found between ages 40 and 70 and is rare among young persons. It tends to gets worse slowly and may not cause symptoms for years. Like many other cancers, it is a disease of old age. MDs often diagnose chronic leukemia during a routine checkup, before there are any recognizable symptoms. In adults, the acute forms occur in those of all ages, whereas the chronic varieties tend to occur in people older than 40 years. Although slow-growing chronic leukemia may also be seen in children, it is very unusual, accounting for less than 50 cases in children each year in North America.

Treatment

Treating leukemia is complex and it depends on your age and health, the kind and how much it has spread. Treatment is generally considered necessary when the patient shows signs and symptoms such as low blood cell counts. In general, ALL treatment is divided into several phases. In children, an intensive 6-month treatment program is needed after induction, followed by 2 years of maintenance chemotherapy. For children with low-risk, standard therapy usually consists of three drugs (prednisone, L-asparaginase, and vincristine) for the first month of treatment. High-risk patients get higher drug doses plus therapy with extra chemotherapeutic agents. Follow-up therapy for ALL patients usually consists of: supportive care, such as intravenous nutrition and treatment with oral antibiotics. In general, the indications for treatment are: falling hemoglobin or platelet count, progression to a later stage of disease, painful, disease-related overgrowth of lymph nodes or spleen, lymphocyte doubling time (an indicator of lymphocyte reproduction) of fewer than 12 months. Overall, the strategy is to control bone marrow and systemic (whole-body) disease while offering specific treatment for the central nervous system (CNS), if necessary. Consolidation or “maintenance” therapy can be given to prevent disease recurrence once remission has been accomplish. Whatever the plan, it is important for the patient to understand the treatment that is being offered and the reasons behind the choice.

Conclusion

Leukemia is a cancer of blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. These cells crowd out other types of blood cells produced by the bone marrow, including red blood cells, which carry oxygen to tissues throughout your body, and platelets, which help form blood clots. Leukemia cells can spread to the lymph nodes or other organs causing swelling and/or pain and can also collect in the kidney, liver and spleen, causing enlargement of these organs. They also can affect the lungs and other regions of the body. Acute forms can happen in both children and young adults. Chronic forms mostly occurs in older people, but can theoretically occur in any age category. There is no single known cause for all of the different types of leukemia. Studies have linked exposure to petrochemicals, such as benzene, and hair dyes to the development of some kinds. Viruses have been linked to other forms. Until the cause or causes are found, there is no known way to prevent the occurrence of the disease. As of 1998, it is estimated that each yr., approximately 30,800 persons will be diagnosed with the disease in North America and 21,700 people will die because of the disease.

Introduction

Introduction

Morning sickness is the nauseous feeling you develop during pregnancy and can be, but is not always, accompanied by vomiting. These nauseating feelings, which can actually come about at any time of the day, can really put a damper on your excitement about being pregnant. It can only become a problem for your baby if you can’t keep your foods or fluids down and begin to lose a lot of weight. This problem and the others that occur during this time are almost always mild enough to control on your own and occurs in 50 to 80 percent of new mother’s to be.

Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea & vomiting can be one of the first signals of pregnancy and often begins around the 6th week after conceiving and continue beyond your 4th month of pregnancy. These signals usually go away twelve to fourteen weeks into pregnancy. Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints of pregnant women and can be worsen by lying on her side. This nausea seems to stem, at least in part, from rapidly rising levels of estrogen, which causes the stomach to empty slower.

You should always see your health care provider: If you are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting that prevents you from retaining any food, If vomiting is accompanied with pain or fever, If nausea and vomiting persists well into the second trimester (after 13th week).

Treatment

The most important thing is to inform your health care doctor when these symptoms appear and talk about possible options. Severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) may necessitate a stay in the hospital and treatment with intravenous (IV) fluids and medications, including anti-emetics, which control nausea. Many women do not seek treatment for morning sickness because of fears about treatment safety. But, once symptoms progress, treatment can become much more difficult. Mild occurences may be resolved with lifestyle and dietary changes, and safe and effective cures are available for severer cases.

Your best option for managing the nausea and vomiting is home treatment. These measures include: Changing what, when, and how much you consume. Therefore, during the 1st trimester use home treatment for your symptoms, unless your health care doctor recommends medication. Taking Vitamin B6 or Vitamin B6 plus doxylamine (an antihistamine) is safe and effective and should be considered a first-line treatment. Although ginger ale or ginger tea may ease mild nausea, your best bet for treating with ginger is with continous daily use.

As with all over-the-counter supplement, including herbs, it’s always a good idea to speak with your MD first, particularly to make certain the symptoms aren’t related to a more serious condition that needs medical therapy. However, few women get complete relief from morning sickness with any therapy. If you’re seeking medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment, consult your MD or other qualified medical professional.

Conclusion

Morning sickness, which can strike at any time of the day or night, is one of the classic symptoms of pregnancy. The name is a misnomer, since it can strike at any time of the day or night and is more common among women who are under a lot of stress, either at work or home. Symptoms can range from mild, occasional nausea to severe, continuous, disabling nausea with episodes of vomiting and generally improves by the 13th or 14th week of pregnancy, but a few women continue to experience nausea into their 2nd trimester. Also, it may be more severe if this is your first pregnancy or if you’re carrying multiple fetuses.

Most women who experience morning sickness notice a dramatic improvement after the 1st trimester – at about 13 weeks. For prevention: Consume frequent small meals, every 2 or 3 hours, rather than 3 large meals daily. Try ginger, which has been proven very effective in combating morning sickness. Proven ginger products include: ginger tea, ginger candy, and ginger soda. Call your physician if your symptoms do not improve, despite using these remedies.

Introduction

Introduction

Colitis is an acute or long duration inflammation of the membrane lining the colon (your large intestine or bowels) creating sores, called ulcers, in the upper layers of the lining of the large intestine. It can be identified using flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. In both of these tests, a flexible tube is inserted in the rectum, and specific areas of the colon are evaluated. Colitis may be acute (lasting only a few days) or chronic (lasting weeks or even many months) and may result in bleeding, ulceration, perforation (a hole in the colon). It is best treated when its cause has been determine and specific treatments can be used.

Symptoms

Signs of Colitis can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal bloating, increased intestinal gas, and bloody stools and can return in up to 20% of persons with this malady, thus needing treatment with antibiotics to be repeated. Colitis can be hard to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to other intestinal problems such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn disease (also called Crohn’s disease). The two most usual symptoms are abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. About one half of the people diagnosed with the disease have mild symptoms. It is not caused by emotional distress or sensitivity to certain foods or food products, however these factors may trigger symptoms in some people. The stress of living with colitis may also contribute to a worsening of symptoms. Many persons have remissions periods when the symptoms go away for months or even years. Sometimes, symptoms are severe enough that a person must be hospitalized.

Treatment

Treating colitis depends on the severity of the malady and usually starts with prescription anti-inflammatory medications, such as mesalamine (Rowasa or Canasa) and sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), in order to lessen swelling. Treatment can also include taking nutritional supplements to restore natural growth and sexual development in children and teens. Therapy is directed at the underlying cause of the disease, Be it an infection, inflammation, lack of blood flow, or other reasons. The aim is to control the inflammation, reduce symptoms, and replace any lost fluids and nutrients. Treatment varies depending upon which parts of the colon are involved. Each person experiences colitis differently, so treatment is adjusted for each individuals need. Occasionly the doctor will recommend removing the colon if medical treatment fails or if the side effects of corticosteroids or other medication threaten the patients health.

If you are already under treatment for inflammatory bowel disease or IBS, contact your MD if you experience any prolonged changes or pass blood in your stools. Also see your MD if you have any of these problems: Diarrhea lasting more than three days, Severe abdominal or rectal pain, Signs of dehydration such as dry mouth, anxiety or restlessness, excessive thirst, little or no urinating, Frequent loose bowel movements during pregnancy, More than 1 other person who shared food with you who has symptoms like yours, for example abdominal pain, fever, and diarrhea, Blood or mucus in your stool, Progressively looser bowel movements, Fever with diarrhea, Pain moving from the area around your belly to your right lower abdomen. You should go to the hospital’s Emergency Department for any of these reasons: Abdominal pain with fever, Severe acute attacks in people diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, Signs of dehydration in an old or very young person, Progression or appearance of new signs over a few hours, Blood in your stool along with fever and loose bowel movements. Your MD will consider the possible causes of your colitis and any complications that require urgent treatment.

Conclusion

Colitis is an inflammation of the large intestine that can be brought on by many different disease processes and is generally found in younger people, before they reach age 30. Up to two million citizens in the US are estimated to have either ulcerative colitis or Crohn disease. Jewish people tend to have more incidences of the disease than non-Jewish people. It affects both men and women equally and appears to run in families, with reports of up to 20% of people with the disease having a family member or relative with ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease. Along with people of Jewish descent a higher incidence is also diagnose in Whites. People with this disease often have abnormalities of the immune system, but MDs do not know whether these abnormalities are a cause or a result of having the disease.

Many tests are utilized to diagnose the disease. A colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy are the most accurate tests for making a diagnosis and ruling out other possible conditions, such as Crohns disease, diverticular disease, or cancer. Sometimes x rays using a barium enema or CT scans are also used to diagnose colitis or its complications. There’s no proven cure for it, but therapies are available that may dramatically lessen the signs and symptoms and even bring about a long-term remission. Your MD will decide which tests you need based on your signs, medical history, and clinical findings.

Introduction

Introduction

Kidney stones, one of the most painful of the urological disorders, have bothered humans for centuries. They form when there is a high level of calcium oxalate or uric acid in the urine; a shortage of citrate in the urine; or insufficient water in the kidneys to dissolve waste materials. Kidney stones are most prevalent in people between the ages of 30 and 45, and the incidence declines after age fifty. They may be as little as a grain of sand or as large as a pearl and often do not create any symptoms.

Symptoms

Stones that cause on going symptoms or other complications can be treated using various techniques, most of which do not need major surgery. Sometimes “silent” stones (those that do not cause symptoms) are found on x-rays taken during a standard health exam. The MD determines if the patient has a history of kidney stones, documents past medical problems, and evaluates present symptoms.

When the stone enters the bladder, the obstruction in the ureter is relieved and the symptoms are gone. Kidney stones routinely leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many are formed and passed without producing any symptoms. Person’s with severe symptoms might require hospitalization. Call your health care provider if you have symptoms or if symptoms return, urinating becomes painful, urine output decreases, or new symptoms develop.

Treatment

Treatment varies, depending on the type of stone and the cause and usually includes pain relievers and increased liquids (to drink) until the stone has passed. If a stone has been removed, or if the patient has passed a stone and kept it, an analysis by the laboratory may aid the MD in planning treatment. A second 24-hour urine collection may be required to determine whether the prescribed treatment is sufficient. Today, therapy for kidney stones is greatly improved, and many options do not necessitate major surgery and can be carry out in an outpatient setting.

To diminish the possibility of complications, physicians usually tell their patients to avoid taking aspirin and other medicines that affect blood clotting for several weeks before therapy. Often the stone is not completely shattered with 1 treatment, and additional ones may be needed. As with any interventional, surgical procedure, potential problems and complications should be discussed with your physician before making a final decision.

If no specific treatment is known, you may be able to stave off additional kidney stones simply by drinking more H2O and making some dietary changes. After treatment, the pain may come back if the stone moves and causes blockage in another location. The goal of treatment is to relieve and prevent future symptoms.

Conclusion

Kidney stones are tiny, hard deposits of mineral and acid salts on the inner surfaces of your kidneys and form when a change comes about in the normal balance of water, salts, minerals, and other things found in urine. They are very painful but often can be removed from the body without causing permanent damage. They normally cause no pain while in the kidneys, but can produce sudden, severe pain while traveling to the bladder. Kidney stones are more common in developed nations and do have regional variation in occurrence. They occur all year; however, most people seem to develop or become aware of stones during the summer time. They are an ancient affliction dating back to the age of the Egyptian pyramids, yet are still a common ailment in present times. Stones are usually passed out of the body within 48 hours, but attacks can sometimes last for more than 30 days. Most however, pass out of the body without help from a doctor.

If someone in your family has them, you’re more likely to develop them also and if you’ve already had one or more, you’re at increased risk of developing another. Most people who develop stones are between twenty and seventy years of age. Having high blood pressure doubles your risk. According to The National Institute of Health, one person in ten develops kidney stones during their lifetime and renal stone disease accounts for 10 out of every 1000 hospital admissions. Conventional wisdom and common sense have long held that consumption of too much calcium could promote the production of kidney stones. However, current studies suggests that the consumption of low-calcium diets is ACTUALLY associated with a higher overall risk for the development of kidney stones. Call your doctor right away if you have symptoms that suggest you have them.

Introduction

Introduction

High blood pressure or hypertension refers to high pressure (tension) in the arteries. It does not mean overly excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can increase blood pressure temporarily. Hypertension normally has no symptoms, but it can create serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure. It causes the heart to work a lot harder and can harm the arteries, causing them to narrow a lot faster. It can also damage other parts of the body and is a major health problem in North America affecting 33% of Americans, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).

Hypertension

Hypertension, most commonly known as “high blood pressure”, HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated and is said to be present when a person’s systolic blood pressure is continouslyly 140 mmHg or greater, and/or their diastolic blood pressure is consistently 90 mmHg or greater. It can be typed as either essential (primary) or secondary and is one of the most routine complex disorders, with genetic implications averaging thirty percent.

Hypertension can be a temporary or lifelong problem, depending on the cause and is dangerous because it makes the heart work extra hard. Pre-hypertension is high blood tension between 120 and 139 for the top number, or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number. For example, blood pressure readings of 138/82, 128/89, or 130/86 are all in the pre-hypertension range. If your blood tension is in the pre-hypertension range, it is more likely that you will develop hypertension unless you take action to prevent it. If you have this type of hypertension, you may not have to take drugs.

Heart

Some person’s may not know they have HBP until they have trouble with their heart, brain, or kidneys. When it is not diagnosed and treated, it can cause the heart to increase in size, which may cause heart failure. With HBP, the heart works harder, your arteries take a beating, and your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are larger. If you don’t have hypertension by age fifty five, you have a 90 percent chance of developing it at some time in your life, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Unattended, it will cause the heart to eventually overwork itself to the point at which serious damage can happen. About 1/2 of people having first-time heart attacks and 2/3 of people having first-time strokes suffer from HBP.

Did you know, laughing heartily 100 times each day gives the same cardio results as working out for twenty minutes?

Treatment

Therapy is focused on reducing water retention and lowering HBP to the normal range. When you first commence treatment, your MD may need you to come to the office regularly. Your MD will review the data with you and decide if your treatment plan is working or if you need to change it. Among the 61 percent who are under treatment, only 35 percent have their blood tension adequately controlled. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, visit your MD.

Conclusion

Hypertension is called the silent killer because it routinely has no symptoms and is a risk factor for heart and kidney disease and stroke. HBP is not evenly distributed throughout the population and occurs disproportionately more frequently in minority communities. High blood pressure rates are also rising among American children, alongside an epidemic of obesity. Hypertension in adults will usually be measured on at least two different physician visits before a diagnosis is made. It can be treated with both lifestyle changes, usually as the first step, and, if needed, with medications. Diuretics work in the kidney and flush out extra water and sodium from the body. Nearly 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure. Once It develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. Fortunately, it can be easily detected, and once you know you have it, you can work with your physician to control it.

Constipation can be one of the most aggravating experiences you’ve had. Myself, I have to be wary of what I consume to stay away from this afflictive condition. There are a variety of reasons and causes for constipation, mostly eating fast foods and foods that lack loads of fiber.

The symptoms of constipation can range from nausea, leg pains, headaches, gas, fever and loss of appetite. All of which should not be underestimated and can turn into troubles in themselves. It should be noted at this point, that even if bowel movements are taking place, you could still be constipated. It’s because if you have intermittent bowel movements and they do not take place every day and are not painless to pass, you could still be considered to be constipated.

In general, we should all try to eat additional fruits and vegetables. This will add weight and fiber to the food intake and so help with diminishing constipation. Make an effort to shun those vegetables that are identified to encourage gas: these include cabbage, sprouts, beans and foods such as nuts and as well some dried foods. Processed, fatty foods and fried foods are also best ignore.

One of the fruits that should be added to the diet are figs. Well known throughout time as one of the constipation home cures, figs can be covered over night in water and be ready for breakfast the next morning. You can also use figs as the basis for a home made blended drink. Simply throw in three or four figs, add some prune juice and mix. This is a fabulous drink, that when taken regularly for several days will usually help to stop constipation.

In the case of expectant females, constipation is a consequence of a change in hormonal stability in the body and also because of the pressure of the now occupied uterus on the intestines.

Wholegrain breads and cereals should also be added to the diet of anyone who has irregular bowel movements or is constipated. These breads and cereals lend a hand to add the necessary bulk that our bodies require to get rid of the waste. The fiber in these foods is critical to keep the bowels fit and running.

Add exercise to your daily regimen and drink loads of water, as this will assist to keep your system working well and encourage the waste to naturally and easily leave the body.

For nearly everyone who has constipation, their first priority when looking for constipation home treatments should be their diets. Frankly put, if you eat the correct amounts of foods in the correct combinations, then you should have frequent bowel movements and that will do away with the need for seeking out constipation home cures.

Home cures are varied and quite common. Many home remedies are obtainable for your use and trial and creating an exhaustive list could take you weeks. The three remedies offered in this article will introduce you to some routine treatments for routine problems.

(1) Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar isn’t merely functional as a component in dishes such as marinades and salad dressings, it has long been used as a treat-all for a number of problems. This home remedy is also something you can create at home from a a small quantity of simple ingredients.

Apple Cider Vinegar Uses:

(1) Reduced Acid Reflux (2) Control of Allergies and their Symptoms (3) Decreased Sinus Infections (4) Improved Energy and reduced tiredness (5) Treatment of sore throats (6) soothing of sunburns and insect bites (7) Application to the hair to make it shiny (8) Dandruff treatments

ACV has numerous healthful ingredients that add to its effectiveness. These contain potassium, pectin, malic acid, calcium, and acetic acid. Potassium is of use in the avoidance of hair loss, brittle teeth, and constant nasal drips. Pectin is used by the body to help control high blood pressure. Malic acid is helpful as an anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Calcium helps to develop stronger bones and teeth and reduces bone loss. Acetic acid may decelerate the absorption of starches which reduces the body’s answer to produce glucose.

Loads of recipes are to be had online if you wish to make your own ACV. The method isn’t complex, and is not too time consuming. But if you desire, you can procure your apple cider vinegar from the majority of grocery stores. Always go for the most untreated and raw options as these have retained as much of their healthful properties as possible.

(2) Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide Uses (H2O2):

Hydrogen peroxide is not only of use in cleaning and flushing of wounds, it can also be used as a mouthwash, teeth whitener, ear cleanser, and may even be helpful in treating influenza.

Hydrogen peroxide is routinely used as a mouthwash, it cleans the mouth much like it cleans wounds. The added benefit is Hydrogen peroxide’s whitening affects. These properties can also help in gradually whitening your teeth and are less destructive than harsh store purchased teeth whitening systems.

For ear cleaning, hydrogen peroxide can be used on a cotton swab for external cleaning or used as a flush with an ear syringe to clean out excess ear wax from the canal. To clean the ears on the outside, just dab a cotton swab into the hydrogen peroxide and then swab the crevices of the ear. It is not recommended to put the cotton swab inside the ear canal, as you can injure your ear drum. For internal cleaning of the canal, use an ear syringe filled with the H2O2 and shoot it into the ear canal, then let it drain out. The H2O2 will melt the built-up ear wax and let it drain out of the canal.

Cleaning your ears with hydrogen peroxide does not only decrease ear wax build-up, it is also a valuable treatment for influenza. Simple applications of two to three drops of H2O2 into the ear canal at several times per day drastically decreases the time deemed necessary to heal from cold and flu symptoms. Each application of the H2O2 kills the cold or flu virus on contact. You may only need to apply it into one of your ears, but if each is infected, you may apply the treatment to both.

(3) Baking Soda

Baking Soda Uses:

Baking soda has hordes of uses in baking and cookery, but it is also useful in treating ordinary woes and is a very effective cleansing product – and it doesn’t generate those poisonous fumes like those store bought cleaners do.

Cleaning Properties of Baking Soda:

Create a paste with baking soda and a little water to use as a cleanser for sinks, bathtubs and showers, stove tops and ovens, and any where else in your home where you need a slight abrasive product to strip off grease and build-up.

Add baking soda into your drains to refresh and remove rotten smells.

Utilize baking soda as a toothpaste to whiten teeth and strip off plaque build-up.

Baking soda can also be used as an excellent facial scrub.

Baking Soda Uses For Ordinary Woes

(A) Put a half teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of h2o and mix to dissolve. Drink this mixture for a extremely rapid acting and effective treatment for heartburn and digestive disorders.

(B) Add baking soda into a container of water and mix. Soak a rag with this concoction and apply to the skin to treat small burns, sunburns, and other skin irritations like razor burn, itching, and poison ivy rashes.

(C) Put baking soda on your feet in advance of putting on socks to treat and prevent periodic athlete’s foot.

These 3 home remedies aren’t the best three for no reason. The uses offered here in this expose are only a few of the various uses for these 3 products. However if you are working on building up your collection of uncomplicated home remedies to treat yourself and your relatives, these 3 are the best places to commence. All 3 of these products are low-cost, easy to find, and have countless uses. From simply cleaning the house to treating problems, these home treatments will serve you nicely.

Home remedies are as wide-ranging as they are ordinary. Loads of home remedies are offered for your use and testing and building an exhaustive listing could take you weeks. The 3 remedies presented in this article has introduced you to some ordinary cures for very ordinary problems.
