Teeth grinding, or bruxism, is quite common condition that takes place while a person is asleep. There are a number of reasons why people may grind their teeth. However, the most known reason according to doctors is stress and anxiety.

In case the teeth are not aligned properly, teeth grinding is likely to take place as one may unconsciously grind or rub them together while asleep. It is always a sensible idea to have it checked by a dentist, before this leads to further problems that may be more serious in nature.

One of the major and most talked about causes of teeth grinding is stress. Many psychologists say that stress usually leads to disturbed patterns of sleep. This may cause teeth grinding, as the person may feel unpleasant and anxious while sleeping. However, he or she may not be aware of doing so.

Furthermore, anger is another cause that may lead to teeth grinding. Its explanation is quite simple and understandable, as one may have commonly seen people express anger by clenching teeth together in a harsh way. The same is done here; however, in this case it is occurring while a person is fast asleep and the anger is not expressed otherwise.

Another reason for teeth grinding among very young children is the fact that new teeth may be growing. This is one stage during which they may experience it while they are sleeping. The reason why this may happen is that while teeth are growing they usually cause feelings of uneasiness and irritation. To get rid of these unpleasant feelings, children may engage in teeth grinding.
